If you work in a factory, a utility plant, an oil and gas facility, or any kind of industrial or MEP environment, you know how important it is to be able to identify equipment quickly and accurately. A machine without a clear name plate is a maintenance problem waiting to happen. A valve without a tag is a safety risk. An asset without a serial number is a headache for your inventory team.
At Point to Point Advertising Designs LLC, we manufacture name plates, equipment tags, valve tags, rating plates, and asset labels from our workshop in Musaffah, Abu Dhabi. We work with factories, contractors, equipment suppliers, MEP companies, and maintenance teams across the UAE. This article explains what we make, what materials we use, and how to place an order with our team.
What Machine and Equipment Name Plates Are For
Name plates and equipment tags serve several distinct purposes, and it helps to be clear about which type you need before you place an order.
Identification plates carry the name of the machine, equipment item, or system — the basic "what is this?" information. These are fixed to the equipment itself and remain with it for its working life.
Rating and data plates carry the technical specifications of a machine or piece of equipment — voltage, current, power, pressure rating, flow rate, weight, or other parameters. These are critical for maintenance and safe operation, and they need to be permanently legible even after years of exposure to heat, oil, and cleaning chemicals.
Serial number and asset tags carry a unique identifier — a serial number, an asset number, or a barcode or QR code — that links the physical item to your inventory, maintenance, or asset management system. These are used across all industries and are particularly important for equipment that moves between sites or is subject to regular inspection.
Warning and instruction plates carry safety information specific to the equipment — operating limits, hazard warnings, lockout/tagout instructions, or maintenance intervals. These need to be clear, durable, and fixed where the operator or maintenance technician will actually see them.
Valve tags identify individual valves in a pipework system — the valve number, the service (natural gas, water, compressed air, etc.), and the normal operating position. In a complex plant, clear valve tags are essential for safe operation and emergency response.
Panel and cable labels identify electrical panels, distribution boards, cable runs, and terminal connections. These are typically small, but they need to be permanently legible and resistant to the environment inside an electrical enclosure.
Materials and When to Use Each
The right material depends on the environment where the plate will be used, the information it needs to carry, and how long it needs to last. Here is a simple guide:
| Material | Best for | Environment |
|---|---|---|
| Stainless steel 304 | Equipment tags, room plates, general industrial | Indoor and sheltered outdoor; good chemical resistance |
| Stainless steel 316 | Offshore, coastal, chemical plant | Exposed outdoor, salt air, aggressive chemicals |
| Brass | Valve tags, rating plates, decorative name plates | Indoor and light outdoor; premium appearance |
| Anodised aluminium | Asset tags, cable labels, lightweight equipment tags | Indoor and outdoor; lightweight; good corrosion resistance |
| Traffolyte (engraving laminate) | Control panel labels, cable tags, instrument tags | Indoor; excellent contrast; two-layer construction |
| Acrylic | Office name plates, room identification, display | Indoor; clean appearance; not for harsh environments |
Traffolyte deserves a special mention. It is a two-layer plastic sheet — typically black over white, or white over black — where the top layer is engraved away to reveal the contrasting colour beneath. The result is a permanently legible label that cannot fade, because the text is the material itself, not a surface coating. It is widely used for control panel labels, instrument tags, and any application where a small, clear, permanent label is needed indoors.

Marking Methods and Durability in UAE Heat, Oil and Chemicals
The marking method determines how well the text and graphics will hold up over the life of the plate. In the UAE, outdoor and industrial environments are particularly demanding — temperatures regularly exceed 45°C, UV exposure is intense, and many industrial environments involve oil, cleaning chemicals, or salt air.
Laser engraving removes material from the surface using a focused beam of light. The result is a permanent, recessed mark that cannot be wiped off, painted over, or worn away under normal conditions. It is fast, precise, and well suited to fine text, sequential numbers, and QR codes. We use laser engraving for most stainless steel, aluminium, and acrylic name plates.
CNC engraving uses a rotating cutting tool to cut into the surface. It produces a deeper mark than laser engraving and is the right choice for traffolyte labels, thicker materials, and applications where a tactile, recessed finish is required. The engraved areas can be filled with paint for contrast.
Chemical etching with paint fill bites into the metal surface using a controlled chemical process, then fills the recessed areas with paint or enamel. It produces very consistent results across large batches and is well suited to fine detail and small text. The paint fill is cured for durability and can be matched to any colour.
Printing is used for name plates where colour graphics, photographs, or complex artwork are required, and where the plate will be used indoors or in a protected environment. Printed plates are not suitable for harsh outdoor or industrial use without a protective laminate.
For most industrial applications — valve tags, equipment tags, rating plates, and asset labels — we recommend laser engraving or CNC engraving on stainless steel, aluminium, or traffolyte. These methods produce plates that will remain legible for the working life of the equipment.
Corner treatment: our engraved tags have sharp square corners as standard. If you need rounded corners — for example, for tags that will be handled frequently or fixed to equipment where sharp corners are a concern — just let us know when you place your order and we will cut them accordingly.
Fixing Options
How a name plate is fixed to the equipment matters as much as what it says. We produce plates with the fixing method built in:
Holes for rivets or screws are the most common fixing for permanent plates. We drill or punch holes to the size and position you specify. Stainless steel or aluminium rivets are the standard fixing for most industrial applications.
Cable ties are used for valve tags and equipment tags that need to be attached to pipework, cables, or equipment without drilling. We punch a slot or hole at the top of the tag for the cable tie.
Strong adhesive backing is used for plates that will be fixed to flat, clean surfaces — electrical panels, machine housings, and similar. We apply a high-bond adhesive to the back of the plate before delivery. This is suitable for indoor and light outdoor use; for harsh outdoor environments, mechanical fixing is more reliable.
Bilingual Arabic and English Plates, Sequential Numbers and QR Codes
Most name plates on sites in Abu Dhabi are required to be bilingual — English and Arabic. We produce bilingual plates as standard, and we review the Arabic text carefully before production to make sure it is correct and legible at the intended size.
For sequential numbering — asset tags, valve tags, or equipment labels where each plate carries a unique number — we produce the full sequence in a single production run. You provide the number range and the format, and we produce all the plates consistently.
For QR codes and barcodes, we engrave or etch the code directly onto the plate surface. An engraved QR code is permanent and will not peel or fade. We test the code before delivery to confirm it scans correctly.
Small and Bulk Batch Production in Our Musaffah Workshop
We produce name plates in quantities from a single plate to several hundred in a batch. The process is the same regardless of quantity — we prepare the artwork, confirm the details with you, and manufacture in our own workshop. We do not outsource production.
For bulk batches — a full set of valve tags for a plant, a complete set of equipment labels for a new facility, or a large order of room name plates for a building — we can phase production to match your delivery schedule. We will give you a realistic lead time when you enquire, based on the actual quantity and complexity of the order.
What to Send Us for a Quote
To give you an accurate quotation, we need the following information:
- A list or Excel file of the text that needs to appear on each plate — name, number, reference, or other content
- The material you need — stainless steel, brass, aluminium, traffolyte, or acrylic
- The size of each plate — width and height in millimetres, or a drawing showing the dimensions
- The quantity — total number of plates, and whether they are all identical or each one is different
- The fixing method — holes (with size and position), cable tie slot, or adhesive backing
- Any special requirements — bilingual text, sequential numbers, QR codes, paint fill colour, rounded corners, or a specific finish
If you have a drawing or a sample of an existing plate you want to replicate, send that too. The more information you give us, the faster we can turn around a quotation. Contact us or email your details directly to info@pointtopoint.ae.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum order quantity for name plates? We produce name plates from a single plate upwards. There is no minimum order quantity. The unit cost is naturally lower for larger batches, and we will always give you a clear price per plate when you enquire.
Can you produce plates with sequential numbers or unique text on each one? Yes. We handle sequential numbering, unique asset numbers, and batches where each plate carries different text. You provide the list — typically as an Excel file or a simple text list — and we produce each plate to match. For QR codes and barcodes, we engrave the code directly onto the plate and test it before delivery.
Do the engraved tags have sharp or rounded corners? Sharp square corners are our standard. If you need rounded corners — for tags that will be handled frequently, or where sharp corners are a concern — just specify this when you place your order and we will cut them accordingly at no extra charge.
What materials do you recommend for outdoor industrial use in the UAE? For outdoor and industrial environments in the UAE, we recommend stainless steel grade 304 for most applications, or grade 316 for coastal, offshore, or chemically aggressive environments. Anodised aluminium is a good choice where weight is a consideration. We do not recommend printed plates or acrylic for harsh outdoor use without a protective laminate.
